BLACKPINK: In Your Area, On Every Stage

When YG Entertainment debuted BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) on August 8, 2016, very few could have predicted how thoroughly the four-member group would reshape the global K-Pop landscape. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa combined high-fashion aesthetics, genre-blending music, and individually distinct personalities into something that resonated far beyond Korea — and built what became arguably the most recognised K-Pop girl group in the world.

The Members

  • Jisoo (Kim Jisoo) — Main vocalist and visual. Known for her elegant stage presence and roles in K-dramas including Snowdrop. Signed with BLISSOO after YG contract completion.
  • Jennie (Kim Jennie) — Rapper and vocalist. Her solo debut SOLO was a landmark moment. Known for charismatic stage presence and fashion influence. Founded her own label, ODD ATELIER.
  • Rosé (Park Chaeyoung) — Lead vocalist with one of K-Pop's most distinctive voices — breathy, emotional, and immediately recognisable. Her solo work has explored indie-pop and folk-influenced territory.
  • Lisa (Lalisa Manobal) — Main dancer and rapper, originally from Thailand. One of the most followed individuals on social media globally. Known for powerhouse performances and solo work including LALISA and MONEY.

The Discography in Brief

Square Up & Kill This Love Era (2018–2019)

The release of DDU-DU DDU-DU was a turning point — a hard-hitting, visually striking video that became the most-viewed music video by a K-Pop girl group at the time. Kill This Love continued the momentum with its brass-driven hook and commanding choreography.

THE ALBUM (2020)

BLACKPINK's debut full-length album arrived in October 2020 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 — a historic achievement. Featuring collaborations with Cardi B and Selena Gomez, it cemented their crossover credentials.

Born Pink (2022)

Their second studio album arrived with a record-breaking world tour and singles Pink Venom and Shut Down. The accompanying global tour became one of the highest-grossing tours by a K-Pop act in history.

What Set BLACKPINK Apart?

  • The "double" concept: Their name captures their duality — beauty and edge, softness and power, pink and black. It's a brand identity executed with exceptional consistency.
  • Fashion credibility: Each member holds major brand ambassador roles with luxury houses including Chanel, Dior, Saint Laurent, and Celine.
  • Individual star power: Unusually for a group, all four members could headline solo careers — and have proven it.
  • Coachella 2023: Their headlining performance made them the first K-Pop act to headline the festival's main stage.

Where Are They Now?

As of 2025, all four members have completed or are in the process of completing their YG contract renewals as individual artists, pursuing solo work while leaving the door open for group activities. The question of BLACKPINK's future as a group is one of the most watched storylines in the K-Pop industry — and BLINKS (their fandom) are waiting with considerable anticipation.
